Dorothy Smale

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved mother Dorothy Louise Smale, a resident of Fenton who passed away July 13, 2018 at the age of 95, surrounded by her children in The Villages, FL. She was born May 1, 1923 in Argentine, MI, the daughter of Elton and Helen Austin, Dorothy graduated from Fenton High School and Cleary Business College. She was a medical stenographer in the Hurley Hospital emergency room prior to becoming a mother and homemaker. She was a member of Fenton United Methodist Church for more than 85 years, where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s Peace Circle and Wesley Fellowship. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and was most known and loved for her compassion, care and love for everyone she met. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Sidney D. Smale and sister Donna Sweeney of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is survived by daughter Julie Smith of Flint, son Donald and wife Cindy of Fenton, daughter Janice and husband Darrell Hensley of Georgia; five grandchildren: Donnie, Josh, Kelly, Shannon and Heather; and three great grandchildren: Josh, McKinley and Cecelia. The family is grateful for the compassionate services of Hospice both in Fenton and The Villages and for her loving home health care aide Cheri Ducsay. A Celebration of Life service is being held at 10am on Friday, August 3rd at Fenton United Methodist Church. Family will receive visitors at 9am with refreshments and fellowship following the service. Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, those desiring, may make contributions to the Fenton United Methodist Church Building Fund.

So sorry for your loss. The world is a poorer place with her passing. We have lost one of the greatest people that I personally have ever known. I can't remember her ever saying a mean word about anyone. An amazing woman.

I knew your mom through my parents, Bill & Marge Ruckel. They thought a lot of your folks. Your mom came to our house to visit mom after her stroke. I wish I had known they were in The Villages as we are too & I would have stopped stopped in to see them. Our thoughts are with you. Ron & Pam Ruckel Andersen

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dorothy' s family. Sid and Dorothy were neighbors for many years. They were good people! God gained a special angel! RIP sweet Dorothy.

Dottie was one of the sweetest, kindest women we have been blessed to know. She had such a beautiful smile and the warmest, softest hands which she always extended in love. We will miss her but find comfort that she and Sid are strolling together again in Paradise in the Presence of their Beloved Lord!

Dear Family:     I wanted to convey my sincere regret for your recent loss.  In the difficult days ahead I hope you will find comfort in happy memories. Revelation 21:4 says that soon 'death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry nor pain be any more'.  We have the promise of seeing our loved ones again in a world with no more suffering.   You are in my thoughts and prayers.  For more comforting information go to www.jw.org
