Sidney Smale

Sidney D Smale, age 95 of Fenton, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Thursday, August 17th, 2017. Born on September 17th, 1921 the son of Donald and Leonnabell Smale. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in WWII. He was the owner of one of the oldest family run businesses in Flint: Flint Rubber Stamp Works. He was a long time member of Fenton United Methodist Church, serving as an usher for many years where he enjoyed serving others. He was active in Shriners and Masons for many years. Sidney loved his family deeply and was a passionate sailor. He was known for his sense of humor and always had a smile and a joke for everyone. He is survived by wife of 72 years, Dorothy. Daughters, Julie Smith of Flint, Janice and husband Darrell Hensley of Georgia and son Don and wife Cindy of Fenton. Grandchildren: Donnie, Josh, Kelly, Shannon and Heather. Great Grandchildren: Josh, McKinley and Cecelia . Sidney was preceded in death by his brother Richard G Smale of California and sister Joanne Lawerence of Flushing. The family is especially grateful to Vicinia Gardens Memory Care for the loving care they provided for the past three years. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Fenton United Methodist Church Building Fund or Medical Team Hospice. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 22 at 2pm at Fenton United Methodist Church.Friends may visit beginning at 1pm and stay after the service for light refreshments. Interment will be on Wednesday, August 23 at 10am at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

I worked with Sid for 23 years. He was a wonderful and loving person. I once introduced him to a friend as my boss, he quickly corrected me and said I am your employer, I will never boss you. He never did, we worked together as a team.

Jan and I had the privileged of knowing Sid and Dorothy by being neighbors of Janice, Darrell and Heather. Sid always had a smile and a story. He will be missed by all.
