Dorothy Field

Dorothy Lenore Field (Sheldon) age 93 of Holly passed from this world to the next on March 17th 2017, just three short weeks following Rex's passing. The two were married 71 years. Dear mother of Bruce, the late Steven, and Cathy Field. Loving Grandmother of the late Adam, Kaylan, Justin (Kiyomi), Joseph (Heather), and Brandon. Great Grandmother of Aurora. Sister of the late Fred (Dorothy) Sheldon. Dorothy also leaves many extended family members and dear friends. Dorothy was born July 20th 1923, in Detroit to Ralph and Bessie Sheldon. Dorothy grew up mostly in Detroit, graduating from Cooley High School. Dorothy met Rex at Fish Lake when they were both 16 years old. Dorothy worked in a factory during World War II that made machine gun parts. After the war Dorothy and Rex were married on July 7th, 1945. Dorothy became the perfect wife and "lady of the house". She enjoyed her home and took great pride in caring for it. Her favorite time of year was summertime. She liked the warmth and taking care of her flowers in the yard. She loved butterflies. Dorothy was an exceptional "behind the scenes" supporter of her family and friends. She was always there to listen to anyone who needed her. Dorothy was all in for her family and country, nurturing three generations of military servicemen. She was amazingly supportive of her oldest son, a paratrooper in Vietnam. As well as her middle son, an infantryman who was wounded in the war in Vietnam. All the while caring for her youngest child, her daughter Cathy. Dorothy spent a great deal of time caring for and helping Cathy in the care of her three sons in the early years of their lives in Fenton. Dorothy found her greatest joy in being a Grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, was always interested in what they were doing, and especially loved pictures. A mass was held in Dorothy's honor and she will be interred in Highland Cemetery. Donations can be directed to the St. John's renovation fund.
